COURSE DESCRIPTION
This unit briefly examines the Orthodox Musical Tradition in its various manifestations, from the first Christian centuries until the post-Byzantine period. Although the journey through the centuries was long and the historical and artistic changes were significant, Christian Art in all its manifestations nevertheless retained its character and purpose: that is, to serve the worship and theology of the Church and, at the same time, to express a sublime Aesthetic.
